What is Eczema?
It is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that results in dry skin, with patches that are red and intensely itchy. These patches sometimes ooze, become scaly, crusted or hardened. Some individuals have mild symptoms while others have severe symptoms that negatively impact quality of life. Eczema can occur anywhere on the skin and is usually found in the bends of the arms or backs of the knees. The most common type of eczema is atopic dermatitis which refers to hereditary tendency toward eczema, asthma, and allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
There are many types of eczema and they are: atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic contact dermatitis, infantile seborrheic, adult seborrheic, varicose, and discoid. Often, different types of eczema can be triggered by certain soaps, clothing fabrics, deodorants, carpet fibers, dust, and others.
