Bleach Baths

Patients with atopic dermatitis (eczema) often scratch at affected skin areas to relieve itch, Combines with changed in your immune system at these areas, this can increase your risk of infection from bacteria. Bleach Baths help control these infections and keep your skin healthy.

Please follow these instructions:

1. Start by filling your bathtub with lukewarm water (about 40 gallons.) 

2. Place 1/4 to 1/2 cup of liquid bleach into the water. The concentration on the bleach bottle (sodium hypochlorite) should be about 6% This is a little stronger than swimming pool water 

3. Soak in the water for about 10 minutes. 

4. Wash your skin with lukewarm, fresh water at the end of your bath. 

5. Pat yourself dry Rubbing yourself dry is the same as scratching! 

6. Immediately apply your medication and/or moisturizers 7. Repeat bleach baths 2-3 times/week, or as instructed by your doctor.

1. Do not use undiluted bleach bath directly on the skin. This will cause dryness and/or irritation. 2. Do not use bleach baths if there are too many breaks or open areas in the skin. This will sting and irritate a lot! 3.Do not use bleach baths if you have a chlorine allergy.
